The Indiana Fever are implementing major changes within their front office as they prepare for the upcoming WNBA season.
Amber Cox has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, with her official start date set for October 28.
Cox comes with extensive experience from various WNBA roles, most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer of the Dallas Wings. Under her leadership, the Wings achieved franchise-best metrics in 2023 and 2024, including seven sellouts and 97% capacity at their arena.
Before her time in Dallas, Cox was the Vice President for Sports at the Connecticut Sun, where she played a pivotal role in guiding the team to the 2019 WNBA Finals while managing all revenue operations.
She began her career with the Phoenix Mercury, eventually becoming President and COO, contributing to the team’s championships in 2007 and 2009 and drafting superstar Brittney Griner in 2013.
Kelly Krauskopf, the Fever’s President for Business and Basketball Operations, expressed excitement about Cox’s arrival.
“I have known Amber for over 20 years and have seen her successfully build teams both on and off the court,” Krauskopf said. “She brings extensive executive experience to our leadership. I look forward to collaborating as we advance the Fever franchise into a new growth era.”
Krauskopf took over for Allison Barber in August after Barber stepped down. In addition to Cox’s appointment, the Fever announced that General Manager Lin Dunn will transition to a new role as Senior Advisor to Fever Basketball.
Dunn rejoined the Fever before the 2022 WNBA Draft and officially became GM in early 2023. During her tenure, she oversaw three historic drafts and helped the Fever return to the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Dunn’s legacy includes leading the 2012 Fever to a WNBA Championship, cementing her status as a Hall of Fame coach.
Krauskopf expressed gratitude for Dunn’s contributions to the Fever.
“I can’t thank Lin enough for her years of service to this franchise,” Krauskopf said. “Coming out of retirement to lead basketball operations during this pivotal transition was invaluable. I hold deep gratitude and respect for her.”
Cox is eager to start her journey with the Fever, emphasizing the organization’s dedication to investing in the sport’s future.
“I am thrilled to join the Fever during this historic time in the WNBA, and I appreciate Kelly, Fever ownership, and Mel Raines for this opportunity,” Cox said.
“There is a strong commitment from the top to invest in the Fever, ensuring the team’s growth and success, and I look forward to enhancing the experience for our fans and players on and off the court.”
The Indiana Fever will return to open the2025 WNBA season in May.
