As the NBA trade deadline approaches in February, the Golden State Warriors are exploring potential moves to bolster their roster for another title push around Stephen Curry.

Losing De’Anthony Melton was a blow, as his two-way ability was key, but the Warriors might be able to replace that defensive prowess with an even more elite talent by targeting New Orleans Pelicans star Herb Jones.

The 2024 NBA All-Defensive First Team selection has established himself as one of the league’s top perimeter defenders. According to Fadeaway World’s Eddie Bitar, a potential trade involving Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody could bring Jones to Golden State.

“Herb Jones would immediately elevate the Warriors’ defense with his ability to lock down top-tier scorers and disrupt offenses,” Bitar argued. “His 1.4 steals per game last season (1.8 this year) and versatile defensive play would fit seamlessly into Golden State’s system.”

Jones’ elite defense against forwards like LeBron James and Kevin Durant makes him a perfect complement to the Warriors’ title aspirations, especially when paired with Draymond Green in the lineup.

On the other hand, the Pelicans would likely be intrigued by Kuminga’s untapped potential and Moody’s shooting and defensive skills, both of which could add value to their young core of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.

Jones’ contract runs through 2027, and the Warriors could see him as the missing piece to strengthen their title contention.
