But United again made a poor start to the second half as Morgan Gibbs-White restored Forest’s lead following weak goalkeeping from Onana, who was at fault again when Chris Wood extended Forest’s advantage to 3-1.
A thunderous strike from Fernandes gave United a glimmer of hope for a comeback, but they rarely looked likely to find an equaliser.
